## English language vocabularly
---
### impecunious
> ‘*a.* Destitute of money.’[^1]
[[Impecuniousness has been termed ‘the disease of the wise’.]][^2]
---
### META
META, as it’s used by video game enthusiasts, had always confused me when compared to the *other* use of meta. Turns out, the two terms aren’t related: they only sound the same!!
Per the Urban Dictionary:
> 1. Meta means about the thing itself. It’s seeing the thing from a higher perspective instead of from within the thing, like being self-aware.
> 2. A term used in mmo meaning the Most Effective Tactic Available. It’s basically what works in a game regardless of what you wish would work.[^3]
- **BT:** [[games, video|video games]]

### NSFW
> ‘**Not safe for work** (**NSFW**) is Internet slang or shorthand used to mark links to content, videos, or website pages the viewer may not wish to be seen viewing in a public, formal, or controlled environment.’[^4]
---
### omnium-gatherum
> ‘**omnium-gatherum** (noun). a miscellaneous collection (as of things or persons)’[^5]
---
### TL;DR
> ‘**TL;DR** or **tl;dr**, short for “too long; didn’t read”, is internet slang often used to introduce a summary of an online post or news article. It is also used as an informal interjection commenting that a block of text has been ignored due to its length.’[^6]
