# Woden
## Woden in the Anglo-Saxon era
[[We know the most about Woden (of the Anglo-Saxon era) because some narrative sources have survived to the modern day.]][^1]
[[Anglo-Saxon recordkeepers would customarily place Woden at the top of their lists of kings; those in East Anglia, Wessex, Mercia and Northumbria believed their royal line(s) started with the deity.]][^2]
[[In Anglo-Saxon depictions of Wodan, Wodan's weapon was a spear; this was the weapon of both freeman and lord.]][^3]
