# *Troglodytes gorilla*
**Gorillas**. The largest living primates.[^1]
## social behaviour
Gorillas live in troops; the leader is called a **silverback**.[^2]
Silverback gorillas will gently take their own young into their nest for protection—but are also occasionally willing (in very rare cases) to snuff out someone else’s offspring.[^3]
## reproduction
[[Gorillas wean their young at around 3–4 years of age.]][^4]
